Neyyar Dam Trip - Part 1

As me and my wife planned to go for an outing we always know that Neyyar Dam is a nice place. We planned to visit Neyyar Dam on 25 Jul 2010. It was a Sunday. After attending the morning service at church we got ready for the trip. We started the trip at around 12 noon. We reached Neyyar Dam at around 1pm. We reached via Balaramapuram-> Kattakada-> Neyyar Dam. As we know that there were very few restaurants out there we bought lunch from Kattakada. Its a business town on the way to Neyyar Dam.

The climate was too good. Even though we reached there at 1pm we didn't feel the hot. We went to the reception for taking the ticket for the Lion Safari park.The ticket cost Rs 40 per head. For visiting the Safari park a mini bus is arranged for the tourists. It took us to the heart of the jungle. More about Lion Safari Park  & Crocodile park in the next post. We reached back from the Safari Park and went to see the Dam. The view of the Dam was so good.

There is small tower near by the Dam. From there we can get an overall view of the Dam and the park. The park in the Dam is good. Its a good place to be there with the family. Its a calm and cool atmosphere. A swimming pool is available in the park. As we take a close look at the Dam, we can see that it has started showing its age. Overall its a nice place for a one day outing.

Veli Tourist Spot, Thiruvananthapuram

Its a Saturday afternoon that we headed to Veli. Veli is one of the popular tourist spot in Thiruvananthapuram. Veli is around 5kms away from city.

There are few facilities like horse ride, boating etc. KTDC provides a floating restaurant. There you can sit and enjoy watching the lake while having a snack and a drink. But an average budget family would find it difficult to pay the bill. A tea cost Rs15, so you can imagine the kind of bill you would get after having snacks and tea for a family. There are normal tea/juice shops there too.

A floating bridge is also there to cross the lake. On the other side of the lake there is a children park, which is sure put smiles on your kids' face. Sea is easily accessible from there.

Thenmala Ecotourism - Deer Park

We had lunch at the near by restaurant of Facilitation centre. Then we headed to the Deer Park. It is one km away from Facilitation centre. We took ticket for the park and entered, we didn't see too many deers there. We were able to find only one inside the forest.

There is a children park inside the Deer park. The small park was completely occupied by a school team. Then we saw a Tree hut. We all got inside the tree hut. There is a room and a sit out in the hut. It is the only one thing which we found that there was no entry ticket.

After visiting these many places we planned to visit the Leisure zone. But it was raining heavily, so we were not able to visit the Leisure zone. We missed the Butterfly Safari park in the Leisure zone. We were ready to leave from Thenmala. Altogether we had some great time at Thenmala. But it didn't meet our expectation, there are few things in which we think there is room for improvement,

After visiting the Deer park, we visited the Dam. It was very hot there at the Dam. We visited the dam at around 2:30 which was not the right time to visit there. Many visitors were there in the form of youngsters. There are steps for climbing up to the bridge of the Dam. We climbed and reached the bridge. There is a echo point near the bridge. We walked through the bridge, there was not much water in the reservoir. We can see lots of monkeys near by.
